Linkedin Co-founder Hoffman Casts Doubt On Harris 2028 Prospects

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is questioning former Vice President Kamala Harris’ chances of winning the 2028 presidential election if she were to run.

“I think it would be a very challenging path for her and it's going to be a very noisy field,” Hoffman said when asked whether Harris should run again during POLITICO’s Decoded Summit in DC.

Hoffman also didn’t shut the door on supporting the potential presidential candidacy of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). “It depends a little bit,” he said when asked if he would be open to endorsing her. “I think she is much more pragmatic than people give her credit for.”

POLITICO also asked about prospective Democratic 2028 candidates who are having productive conversations about regulating the potential harms of AI products. Hoffman pointed to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, noting that he’s had “in-depth conversations” with them.

Hoffman supported Harris in 2024, but said last year that the Democratic Party “really did alienate” parts of Silicon Valley during that election cycle. He has continued donating to Democratic congressional candidates in the midterms since.

Few tech donors have indicated if they have any favorite contenders for 2028. Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings in May praised Newsom as “the candidate who can motivate both the left and the center.” Billionaire crypto executive Chris Larsen previously also told POLITICO that he’d boost Newsom “any way we can” in his likely 2028 run.
