Trump Attacks His Former Maga Allies Over Iran War Criticism
President Donald Trump is lashing out at some of the conservative media personalities who helped return him to the White House over their criticism of the Iran war.
Trump denounced Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens and Alex Jones in a social media post Thursday that reflected a rift within the MAGA movement that has widened since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran.
The president dismissed them as “troublemakers” who are seeking publicity at his expense with their criticism of a war that his conservative critics see as a violation of his oft-made campaign pledge to keep the U.S. out of wars in the Middle East.
“They’re stupid people,” he wrote. “They know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too! Look at their past, look at their record.”
Trump, who said their views are “the opposite of MAGA,” also said he now refuses to take calls from them, echoing a declaration he made following an earlier break with former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
His lengthy rant reflected what seemed to be deep anger at criticism from once-loyal supporters who have been harshly critical of him in recent days. Carlson, for example, gave a scathing critique of a profane Easter Sunday social media post from Trump, calling the president “vile on every level” in his monologue and accusing him of threatening to commit a war crime.
“I know why Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones have all been fighting me for years, especially by the fact that they think it is wonderful for Iran, the Number One State Sponsor of Terror, to have a Nuclear Weapon — Because they have one thing in common, Low IQs,” Trump wrote.
He noted that Owens has been sued in the U.S. by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, over her repeated claims that France’s first lady is a man and referred to the fact that Jones filed for bankruptcy after being ordered to pay nearly $1.5 billion for his false claims about the Sandy Hook school shooting.
His outburst drew quick rebukes on social media from the targets of his ire.
“It may be time to put Grandpa up in a home,” Owens said on X.
Jones in his response noted the belief among some conservatives that the U.S. attacked on behalf of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We Hope and Pray That President Trump Wakes Up From The Mind Control Spell That The Never Trumper Neo-Cons and Netanyahu Have Put Him Under,” Jones wrote on X.
Greene, who was also targeted in Trump’s message, responded in similar fashion.
“President Trump has gone mad as he wages war against Iran, a broken campaign promise,” she wrote on X. “I fought alongside Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones to help get Trump elected. And now he goes off on a rambling rant attacking all of us in one post.”
