49ers Open Up As Nearly 2-touchdown Favorites Against The Dolphins

The San Francisco 49ers were underdogs in Week 1. After the beatdown they put on the Rams, it might be months until they’re not favored to win.

According to the Week 2 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook, the Niners are favored to beat the Miami Dolphins by 13.5 points, with the total on the game listed at 45.5. Generally, large spreads with low totals are a sportsbook’s way of telling you a blowout is coming.

The 49ers allowed one touchdown against the Rams. The Dolphins’ lone touchdown against the Raiders came when they were gifted the ball at midfield to begin the third quarter after a Kirk Cousins interception. Cousins threw two interceptions, and the Raiders went 5-for-13 on third down, yet they still scored 27 points, scored a touchdown on three of their four red zone trips, and lived in Dolphins territory.

Ashton Jeanty had a field day. He went over 100 yards, while rookie Mike Washington averaged nearly six yards per carry on seven attempts. That’s impressive when you factor in Cousins only completed one pass beyond 10 yards.

Going from the Rams to the Dolphins is the definition of stepping down in class. One team was the Super Bowl favorite heading into 2026. The other was penciled in for a top-three pick. A big reason is its inexperience and lack of offensive threats.

Malik Willis had a QBR of 29.4, thanks to taking five sacks. He was also Miami’s leading rusher, with 39 yards. The Dolphins receiver with the most targets was Malik Washington, a 6th-rounder from the ’24 NFL Draft. Rookie Caleb Douglas was the second-leading receiver in targets. He’s a unique challenge at 6’4″. But this will be the second game of his professional career.

It’s the home opener, so the 49ers shouldn’t be lethargic. A letdown after a win over a divisional rival is always a worry, but it’s Week 2. That should not be an issue for San Francisco. This is a spot where they need to handle business and get out of this contest healthy.
