SANTA CLARA — Defensive tackle Kevin Givens, who played each of his first seven NFL seasons with the 49ers, will get a chance for an eighth year with the team.
San Francisco on Sunday announced the signing of Givens to a one-year contract. That deal comes one day after 49ers general manager John Lynch announced the team’s decision to part ways with defensive tackle Evan Anderson.
The 49ers held their first practice of training camp on Sunday at the team’s practice facility.
Givens, 29, has appeared in 70 games in his NFL career (all with the 49ers) with 14 starts. He originally signed with San Francisco as an undrafted rookie in 2019 from Penn State.
Givens has 92 career tackles with eight sacks.
Last season, Givens appeared in five games and registered just two tackles.
He will compete for a roster spot at defensive tackle. Among the 49ers’ defensive tackles are Osa Odighizuwa, Alfred Collins (currently on the physically unable to perform list with a shoulder injury), CJ West and rookie Gracen Halton.
