Jaylen Brown has been ruled out for the Philadelphia 76ers’ NBA Cup matchup with the New York Knicks on Friday.

Brown is listed on the team’s injury report as out with a left patellar issue after initially being listed as questionable before being downgraded to doubtful on Friday afternoon. NBA reporter Marc Stein got a bit more specific, saying the veteran forward is dealing with left patellar tendinopathy, a repetitive use injury.

Both LeBron James and Joel Embiid are available for the Sixers with Friday’s game being the first of a back-to-back. No word yet on whether either of the two will play on Saturday at the Charlotte Hornets.

Brown said he felt soreness in his left knee after Wednesday’s 114-109 win over the Indiana Pacers and wasn’t able to participate in Friday’s shootaround, according to Sixers head coach Nick Nurse.

The 76ers won their season opener over the Knicks, defeating the reigning NBA champions at Madison Square Garden. Brown scored 19 points with 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the 106-100 win. Tyrese Maxey led all scorers with 28 points. Jalen Brunson was the Knicks’ top scorer with 21 points, but shot 6-for-19.
