The Miami Dolphins will open their regular season on Sunday when they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders. However, before Malik Willis has thrown a pass for the team, before De’Von Achane has an opportunity to be Miami’s offensive workhorse, before Jeff Hafley has a chance to prove himself as a competent head coach in the National Football League, the Dolphins have been named the favorites to land the first overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft by NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Speaking on his podcast — the aptly named Adam Schefter Podcast — the longtime insider named Miami as the favorites to land the first overall pick in next year’s selection process.

I personally disagree with Schefter — as I think the Dolphins win five games in 2026 despite the immense roster turnover and 2nd most difficult schedule in the league. I’m a believer in Hafley, Willis and the new culture that has begun to be cultivated in Miami Gardens, and don’t think the franchise will just lay down and die during the regular season.

However, if Miami does land the first pick next offseason, who would they select? Could a young, new quarterback make his way to South Florida? Maybe a defensive stalwart would make more sense for the Dolphins? Of course, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State will be a coveted name. Who would you pick?
