Alabama Church Goes Viral For 'pickleball Paul' Gym Mural
A mural inside Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Madison, Alabama, is getting national attention after a social media video of its sports-themed biblical figures went viral.
The church gym features playful scenes like “Air Moses” and “Pickleball Paul,” blending faith, community, and sports in a way that's turning heads online.
The murals were painted by Atlanta-based artist Chad Camp and were posted online earlier this month by Andie Morgan Williams while her son was playing basketball.
According to Today, “Air Moses” dates back to around 2006, while “Pickleball Paul” was added about two years ago as the church’s local pickleball league grew.
"We wanted something fun on the wall, something that people would get a kick out of, something kind of iconic," Pastor Brittany Dawkins-Camp told Today. "And so we went with the 'Air Moses.'"
The gym also plays host to a weekly pickleball league, which lead to the artist's next masterpiece.
"[Pickleball Paul] came along because our church started a community pickleball league that plays three days a week in the gym, and we just wanted something to represent them," says Dawkins-Camp.
Both Williams and Dawkins-Camp have reportedly been blown away by the reaction so far.
"We actually played (the news clip) at worship last week as part of our announcements. It's just been really fun for our congregation to see that the heartbeat of our church is to be right in our community," said Dawkins-Camp.
"It's been fun to watch that go viral, and for people to love our murals as much as we do."
