Bengals Film Room: Amarius Mims Dominates At Right Tackle

I have been banging the drum all summer that Amarius Mims has the potential to take the leap into being an All-Pro tackle this season for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mims was the Bengals’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. I thought he was incredible for Cincinnati last season. With the expectation that he could become more consistent this season, it feels like the sky is the limit for what he can be at tackle in the league.

Mims is a massive human being. He is every bit of the 6’8” and 350 pounds he is listed at. Even more impressive is how smoothly he moves at that size. He is quick out of his stance in pass protection, flies up to the second level as a run blocker, and also gets out in space to lead the way for big plays, as he did on Sunday for Chase Brown on a nice first-down carry.

Mims did not allow a pressure against Tampa Bay on Sunday. He was tasked with matching up with Rueben Bain Jr. for the majority of the day. He shut down the rookie all day long.

Mims will be asked to do it all again with an even tougher opponent in Will Anderson for the Texans. Anderson is arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL currently. Anderson finished the 2024 season with 11 sacks and added another 12 sacks in 2025.

Mims will have his hands full with Anderson, but if he plays as well as he did on Sunday, he should be able to at least keep him from completely wrecking the game. If Mims completely shuts him down, that All-Pro talk grows even louder going forward.

Mims earned an 84.5 pass-blocking grade from PFF on Sunday, the highest of his career. If he keeps this up over a 17-game regular season, it will be hard to keep him off one of the All-Pro teams when it’s time for postseason honors.
