The Cincinnati Bengals may have really hit on their first draft pick from this past draft. EDGE Cashius Howell. Offensive tackle Marius Mims shared his thoughts on the rookie.

“Cashius was making some grown-man plays,” Mims said. “He’s the least like a rookie player I’ve seen on defense since I’ve been here (three years). A grown man.”

When Cincinnati drafted Howell, they were breaking away from their typical EDGE players they normally like to draft. He has a deep pass rush bag, but he isn’t the big defensive lineman known for being able to stop the run. However, lately those picks have not developed into pass rushers quickly enough.

This team needs to put pressure on quarterbacks in a big way, and it sounds like Howell is ready to be able to be one of those guys who will pull that off

“Dagger in the heart,” Knight said of the Bears’ last-minute comeback win here back in November. “There was a little attitude about it where we remember what happened last time, and we’re going to get that taste out of our mouths today.”

Dexter Lawrence is already showing the difference he can make by being able to create pressure on the inside. It makes life so much easier on everyone else, and it definitely brings a different mindset to everyone.

Recapping the Bears and Bengals joint practice

For a while there, it seemed like it was going to be an offensive-dominant joint practice. But as the team drills progressed, the Bears and Bengals turned up the heat and found success. We’ll discuss what Cincinnati did, primarily their defensive line, to frustrate Chicago below. But the Bears defense made some plays against a talented Bengals offense. Rookie safety Dillon Thieneman had the play of the day for the defense when he picked off Joe Burrow.

Since we won’t get to see the starters on Saturday this as close as we get to seeing them until Week 1 most likely. You will see plenty of takeaways, but it is important to remember this is still just practice for both sides. No one is game planning for each other or anything yet.

‘This is it’: Bengals’ Joe Burrow tired of waiting, targets Super Bowl

“You can keep pushing it down the road or you can talk about it now and say this is the year,” Burrow said Thursday. “You know, I’m tired of saying, ‘Next year, next year, next year.’ This is it. Your life is too short to keep pushing things down the road. I’m trying to instill some urgency and some intensity in everybody to go and be great every day and try to make it happen.”

Can’t wait for this to be the quote that is taken out of context for the next year. Burrow’ simply is tired of falling short, and earlier in the press conference took on some of the blame for inconsistencies. This is not a “win or I am gone” quote. He simply wants to win.

2026 NFL Preseason, Week 2: What We Learned from Thursday’s games

Statistically speaking, Fernando Mendoza didn’t glisten. However, the most worrisome aspect of the game was Mendoza largely getting pummeled by the Texans backup defense. It’s arguable that Houston’s defensive reserves could be as good as some teams’ starters, but it’s still troublesome that the 2026 NFL Draft’s No. 1 overall pick was hit five times, pressured on 37.5% of his dropbacks and sacked once.

Not the easiest test for any rookie. Even if they are backups the Texans’ defense is still fearsome.

NFL Network: Ravens center Danny Pinter suffers torn patellar tendon

Pinter exited Wednesday’s session on a cart and underwent imaging to determine the severity of his knee injury. Testing revealed the worst news for Pinter, who was on track to earn a starting job for the first time since he joined the league as a fifth-round pick by the Colts in the 2020 draft.

The Ravens’ injury luck unfortunately continues to be poor. This is one coming at a spot they are trying to fill after Tyler Linderbaum left in free agency.

Jaguars two-way star Travis Hunter tries hand at placekicking during joint practice

The two-way stud took his shot at placekicking during Wednesday’s special teams session at joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. Hunter took five field goal attempts from 27 yards out, per Garry Smits of The Florida Times-Union, with the first four missing badly, including a couple that barely got off the ground.

He should get some pointer from Chad Johnson if he really wants to never leave the field.
