Bengals News: Could Dan Pitcher Eventually Take Play-calling Duties From Zac Taylor?
It was a fun preseason game against the Chicago Bears for the Cincinnati Bengals. And some may have noticed things looked a bit different from the offense, but may not have been able to put their finger on it.
Well it turns out that head coach Zac Taylor let offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher an opportunity to call plays. Truly it was very smart to test this out in this setting. You get a real game time experience of going through the logistics. It was also a chance to give this offense a breath of fresh air after Taylor has called plays since arriving.
“Pitch did an excellent job. Before the game tonight, he did an excellent job,” Taylor told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Great prep all week, preparing for this practice, (then) calling the game. I know he had a great feel for it. So, I thought he did an excellent job.” …

Roster Look: After Dominating Bears, Bengals Salute Tight Position Battles
“They’re prepared, really veteran play callers in all three phases,” Zac Taylor said. “I mean, it’s about as veteran as you get. Ben has called plays for a long time. (Special teams coordinator) Richard Hightower’s been there for a long time. DA (DC Dennis Allen) has done it forever. So, that was just good for our coaching staff, for our players to go against that. It was a good test for us all week.”
The tight end position will make some very tough cuts. It may become who they think they can get back onto their practice squad. Tanner Hudson, despite being a trusted veteran, may be the odd man out. Enough younger guys behind him look like they are deserving of a spot and Hudson is getting up there in age.
Bengals are a viable landing spot for veteran tackle amid latest o-line concerns
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently released his remaining bargain free agents and named offensive tackle Cam Robinson as a player who could end up with the Bengals.
The Bengals desperately need more depth behind their starters and Cam Robinson could very well be that guy. In a dream scenario maybe, but more likely they will stick with the rank and file. Then we will have to hope the Bengals do not need more help.
Bengals’ OL problems could show up big on final cuts
While the Bengals return all five starters on the line for the first time in the Joe Burrow era, the depth behind those first on the chart looks shaky.
It will be interesting to see who falls off the team. It will be something to watch if they find a replacement behind the current starters. Maybe it is time to cut ties with a veteran or disappointing pick.

Predicting NFL teams most likely to improve in 2026 season
Even by NFL standards, 2025 was a topsy-turvy season. Seven teams saw their records improve or decline by at least six wins, the most in any campaign since 2008. And though that’s a little more feasible in a 17-game season than it was in the 16-game era, the 10-game improvement by the Patriots, who improved from 4-13 to 14-3, was the largest by any team since 1999, when the Colts pulled that off in Peyton Manning’s second season.
The Bengals not being on the list is a bit surprising. It makes a bit of sense since the other teams missed the playoffs severely more.
2026 NFL Roster Cuts: Predicting the Biggest Names Who Could Hit the Market
Every year, there are some surprising departures. Some are early-round picks who just haven’t panned out, veterans who are released as much for economics as performance, and aging vets at the end of the line.
Maybe a name or two in here could be a potential improvement in certain areas, but no one here seems to be a quality add to any depth.
Yikes dog. Not great after he expressed serious frustration with the fans. It makes sense that the dude getting paid the most will be trotted out there to try and salvage the move that mortgaged the franchise.
