The Buffalo Bills announced on Saturday that the son of defensive tackle Ed Oliver recently died.

"On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said in a statement. "It's an unthinkable tragedy for any parent.

"We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss."

No further details about Oliver's son's death have been made public.

Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported Saturday that Oliver and his family were asking for "privacy and prayers at this very difficult time."

Oliver did not travel with the team for Saturday's preseason game in Cleveland against the Browns. Head coach Joe Brady said the veteran defensive tackle sat out Thursday's joint practice with an injury.

The 28-year-old Oliver is entering his eighth NFL season, all with the Bills. He was the franchise's first-round pick in the 2019 draft out of Houston. Last season, he was limited to three games after suffering an ankle injury and a torn biceps.
