Cam Jurgens explains why he got stem cell therapy in Colombia  originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Why did Eagles center Cam Jurgens fly to Colombia this offseason to undergo stem cell therapy?

The answer is simple.

“I play in the NFL. They pay me money,” Jurgens said. “So I’m going to do everything I can to get my body right.”

Jurgens fought through pain for the entire 2025 season and his play suffered because of it. While he was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl, Jurgens was clearly not as healthy last season.

So after talking to players around the league who have felt the benefits of stem cell therapy, he decided to fly to Medellin to get the treatment himself. Jurgens received 70 million stem cells through injection as well as other treatments during the week from BioXcellerator, which calls itself “a world leader in stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine.”

“Stem cells have been going on for a long time now,” Jurgens said. “I’m not the first one, won’t be the last one. Just a lot of good cases of people going down there and saying it helps me heal. It’s going to help you get into a better position. We’re paid a lot of money to do our job and we have to use all the resources we can.”

While Jurgens joked the Eagles needed to call in a doctor to field some of the questions being hurled his way about stem cells, he boiled it down as best as he could: Stem cells go to areas of inflammation and help the body heal.

A few months out, Jurgens has felt the benefits.

“I’ve noticed such a good change since I’ve been down there,” he said.

Of course, a big part of Jurgens’ improved health right now is just having a full offseason. He didn’t have that this time last year. Jurgens somehow played through an extremely painful back injury in Super Bowl LIX before having offseason surgery to repair a broken disc.

But the problem with playing through the Super Bowl and then needing surgery is that you don’t really get a full offseason. Jurgens spent the few months he had between the 2024 and 2025 seasons rehabbing and then it was time to play football again.

“You get surgery and then you don’t have any of that offseason to train and you’re kind of behind the 8 ball,” Jurgens said. “And I felt like I was like that throughout the season. Every week, I was trying to get better and get the body right. But it was like that to start. So it’s nice to have a fresh, clean slate and getting to train throughout the offseason.”

It’s good that Jurgens is feeling healthy this offseason because he and the rest of his offensive teammate are learning a new scheme being implemented by coordinator Sean Mannion. It’s a scheme that will feature the Eagles’ athleticism up front.

Jurgens said he has been a fan of this style of offense and wide-zone blocking from afar but he’s now getting a chance to actually play in it.

“I like the system,” Jurgens said. “I feel like I’ve always liked teams that run it. I feel like it lets you be a little more of an athlete, lets you run around and play free. So I’m excited for that.”

This upcoming season will already be Jurgens’ fifth in the NFL and third as the Eagles’ full-time starting center. In his first two years, Jurgens has been named to the Pro Bowl twice and he was excellent in the Super Bowl year in 2024 after Jason Kelce retired.

A big part of Jurgens’ future success will be his health. He’s still just 26 years old but knows the importance of taking care of his body and has followed the lead of 36-year-old Lane Johnson, who will enter Year 14 in the NFL this season.

Jurgens acknowledged that pretty much all NFL players have to play through pain and he knows it won’t be different for him the rest of his career. That’s why it’s so important to do everything he can to manage that pain and take care of his body.

That’s why he took a trip to Colombia in February. He went for the stem cells, but he tried to enjoy himself a little too.

“I got to see a little bit, yeah,” Jurgens said. “Beautiful down there. Lot of mountains.”
