Well, here’s a massive Eagles offensive line development for the second day in a row: Philadelphia is trading Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for multiple draft picks.

The full terms of the deal, as first reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter:

EAGLES RECEIVE — 2027 fifth-round pick, 2028 second-round pick

RAVENS RECEIVE — Cam Jurgens, 2027 seventh-round pick

Wow. Safe to say no one saw this coming.

Coming off a down season in 2025 where he inexplicably still made the Pro Bowl, the Eagles were hoping Jurgens would bounce back in 2026. Along with fellow starting offensive lineman Landon Dickerson, Jurgens made an offseason trip to Medellín, Colombia for stem cell therapy. After beginning the season at his normal center position, the Eagles decided to move Jurgens to left guard with Dickerson massively struggling and landing on injured reserve after Week 1. To no surprise, Jurgens massively struggled at a new position where he had no previous experience. There were calls for the Eagles to bench him in favor of Willie Lampkin.

Jurgens was expected to miss Week 5 after self-reporting a concussion. But no one expected him to be off the Eagles’ roster entirely.

Howie Roseman clearly saw an opportunity to get good draft pick compensation in return for a player with a questionable outlook moving forward. The Ravens were clearly desperate for center help after losing Tyler Linderbaum in free agency and seeing their next three replacement options get injured. Kudos to the Eagles’ general manager for taking advantage of this opportunity.

It is a shame that Jurgens’ Eagles career came to such an abrupt end. He was drafted to be Jason Kelce’s successor and it once looked like he was going to have a long career in Philly. Jurgens should always be remembered fondly for toughing it out through a back injury in an NFC Championship Game win over the Washington Commanders and the team’s Super Bowl LIX victory during the 2024 season.

With Jurgens gone and Lane Johnson retiring, the Eagles’ offensive line is clearly in flux. That’s not really ideal in the short-term. But Roseman’s trade signals that the team has a long-term focus in mind. While I don’t think the Eagles are ready to completely throw in the towel on the 2026 season, the Jurgens trade seems like an acknowledgement that 2026 might just be a down year for this franchise.

The Eagles are now set to have four picks in the first two rounds of the 2028 NFL Draft: their own first-round pick, the New England Patriots’ first-round pick (via the A.J. Brown trade), their own second-round pick, and the Ravens’ second-round pick.
