Head coach Dave Canales’ biggest change to the 2026 Carolina Panthers may well be that he handed over play calling duties to his offensive coordinator, Brad Idzik. Idzik has called a couple of Panthers preseason games before, but last week was his first game after being handed the responsibility on a full time basis.

In fact, the 34-year old Idzik has never been a head coach or coordinator at any level of football prior to landing the offensive coordinator job with the Panthers. This season will be his first calling plays anywhere.

His debut turned into one of the most exciting Hall of Fame games in history, mostly driven by the on field heroics of Haynes King.

It can be hard to isolate coaching from the individual triumphs and mistakes of second and third string players in the preseason, but it is worth giving specific thought to Idzik. That’s why we are asking y’all to grade Idzik’s performance from last week. This is probably a topic we will refer back to as the season progresses.
