Chargers Sign Caleb Murphy To Practice Squad, Release Nadame Tucker
A handful of days after the potential signing was initially reported, the Chargers have finally added edge rusher Caleb Murphy to the practice squad. In a corresponding move to open a spot, the Chargers are releasing rookie pass rusher Nadame Tucker.
Murphy returns to the Chargers where he spent around a calendar year with the Chargers. He was initially signed in October of 2024 and was a standout performer during the 2025 preseason, mainly on special teams. In six games last season, Murphy had half a sack and 12 total tackles before being waived. Murphy was intended to fall back on the practice squad, but the Patriots claimed him off waivers.

When signed, Tucker was the gem of the 2026 UDFA class. He led the nation in sacks the previous year under then-Western Michigan defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary and the expectation was that the latter would help take the former’s game to the next level as a professional.
Sadly, at least for now, Tucker has not been able to hold up enough as a run defender to warrant being kept on the practice squad.
