The injury bug continues to bite the Chicago Bears’ secondary, with the latest being safety Xavier Woods, who left today’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns and did not return. Head coach Ben Johnson said it was a groin injury, but didn’t provide any timeline specifics. Woods, who was just signed last week, appeared to be ramping up to start at safety with Coby Bryant out 4 to 6 months. We’ll hopefully know the severity of Woods’ injury in the coming days.

Also injured today, per Johnson, were linebackers Nephi Sewell with a concussion and Ruben Hyppolite II with a shoulder, and “Nico” (whom I believe is tight end Nikola Kalinic) with a knee.

Johnson was also asked about injured defensive end Montez Sweat and left tackle Braxton Jones, and he said both should be back this coming week, but when he was asked about nickelback Kyler Gordon, he said, “Unknown.”

During the game’s broadcast, Stacey Dales remarked that rookie linebacker Keyshaun Elliott, who is on the PUP list, could be back to practice this week.
