The Indianapolis Colts announced on Thursday that they have named five team captains for the 2026 campaign: defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, safety Cam Bynum, quarterback Daniel Jones, offensive guard Quenton Nelson, and running back Jonathan Taylor.

No real surprises here, except I thought there was a chance we might see the likes of wide receiver Alec Pierce or cornerback Sauce Gardner, as well as a lone special teams representative such as longtime punter Rigoberto Sanchez or long snapper Luke Rhodes.

For the Colts and each player’s respective captaincies, the breakdown is as follows:

DeForest Buckner: 6th-year

Cam Bynum: 1st-year

Daniel Jones: 2nd-year

Quenton Nelson: 6th-year

Jonathan Taylor: 3rd year

As noted, it’s Bynum’s debut as a Colts team captain, and he’ll be bearing the ‘green dot’ on his helmet for the first time in Indy this season for the Colts defensively, meaning he’s responsible for relaying the defensive play calls to his teammates from the coaching staff and sidelines.

Meanwhile, Taylor has returned to being a team captain, having previously served in 2022, 2024, but not this past season. As the Colts best offensive player, it only makes sense that he regains his team captaincy again.
