It is the week of the NFL draft which is exciting on a number of levels. By Saturday evening the Dallas Cowboys will have a brand new draft class, and an undrafted free agency class, and we will really be able to figure out how we feel about this team moving into the 2026 season. The prospects are limitless.

Speaking of prospects, that is what this is all about. The Cowboys have draft picks to spend this weekend and most notable among them are numbers 12 and 20 overall. Dallas has multiple first-round picks for the first time since 2008, but chatter lately has been that they want to move up from their top spot at 12. This could require packaging them together.

The Cowboys want to hold on to 20 overall

File this under Not Shocking News, but the Cowboys apparently do not want to let go of their second first-round pick.

Adam Schefter dumped a massive amount of news on Monday morning and in discussing teams who want to trade up he mentioned the Cowboys. He also noted that Dallas wants to keep 20 if they can.

A potential trade-up candidate in the eyes of some front office executives is the Cowboys. They have two first-round picks — though they are said to want to hold onto pick No. 20 — and needs for a big-time defensive player.

There has been a lot of spaghetti thrown at walls in suggesting that Dallas could package 12 and 20 to someone like the Cleveland Browns in exchange for picks 6 and 39. That would leave Dallas without multiple first-round picks, obviously, though.

It is hard to figure out how Dallas could move up without giving up 20. They don’t have a second-round pick to add on to anything. They do have a third-rounder that they got in exchange for the Osa Odighizuwa trade, though. That is number 92 overall.

Do you think this can be done?
