During the offseason, some of the biggest buzz surrounding the Dallas Cowboys has been the addition of defensive coordinator Christian Parker, and he’s already bringing a new aspect that’s making a difference. Going into his third season, Tyler Guyton hasn’t reached his potential yet, but Terence Steele says he’s on the right track.

Dallas added a new running back to their roster on Friday, and a early roster projection came out after the first week of padded practices at training camp.

Christian Parker is entering his first season calling plays as a defensive coordinator. However, the communication aspect of his philosophy is shining through already.

“It’s loud in a good way,” Schottenheimer said. “There’s a lot of communication. I love what he says and how he refers to it as it’s two parts, giving and receiving. You just can’t be blurting out a bunch of stuff that doesn’t matter and confusing people. You got to give it, you got to receive it.

“[He’s handled it] like a true pro,” Steele said of Guyton’s demeanor and work ethic. “He could’ve gone a different way about it, but he did it the right way. I was with him a lot this offseason, and he put a lot of great work in. The dude works his butt off, so he came into this camp confident and he’s on his way.”I’m very proud of him. Briefly: The Cowboys were hoping Joe Milton could take another step after an up-and-down first season in Dallas. It looks like he’s done it. Milton has had some good moments in camp. He’s also shown improvement with his touch on passes — he earned the nickname Bazooka Joe for a reason — and his time spent in the pocket. He’ll still escape a little early at times, but he’s looking to throw more than he did last season.

Dallas is still trying to figure out their depth at the running back position. On Friday, they signed Jashaun Corbin from the UFL.

Corbin played at major college football programs between Texas A&M and Florida State. His best season came in 2021 at Florida State when he rushed for 887 yards and seven touchdowns, more than doubling his previous high of 401 rushing yards the season prior.

Yes, there is an ongoing competition for the starting left tackle job, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer has said that Tyler Guyton has pulled away in that battle with Nate Thomas to calm any concerns the staff maybe had that Guyton wasn’t the right man for the job. In camp, Guyton has shown improvement with his hand placement and has married his lower body movement with his striking ability to guard the more athletic pass rushers on the other side of the ball.
