The Dallas Cowboys are being connected to yet another trade rumor. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentioned on Wednesday that the Cowboys could be interested in Arizona Cardinals pass rusher Josh Sweat. It is worth mentioning that Dallas hosts Arizona next Sunday afternoon.

The Cowboys might have one more move in them. Perhaps that’s shortsighted, given their 2-4 record. But that might as well be 4-4 in this season’s NFC East climate, where no commodity is proven and Philly’s transitional state has cracked the door open. As one team exec pointed out to me Tuesday, Josh Sweat to Dallas makes a lot of sense. He fits Dallas’ profile, and the Cowboys need edge-rush help. Sweat’s Cardinals won Sunday, but they are not contention-adjacent just yet. Sweat has been linked to the Packers, too, but Green Bay has Micah Parsons returning eventually.

Fowler even notes in his report here that the Cowboys executing this move, hypothetically, could be viewed as shortsighted as the Cowboys are a pair of games below .500 this season. All is fair in the crummy NFC East, though.

While the Cowboys certainly need help at pass rusher, the other reason this could be viewed as shortsighted may be the more important one. Following their trade for Joey Porter Jr. a couple of weeks ago, the Cowboys are pretty low on draft capital for 2027.

Round 1: The Cowboys own a first-round pick, but it is the worse of theirs and Green Bay’s. Dallas has Green Bay’s by way of the Micah Parsons trade, but they owe the better of the pair to the New York Jets as a result of the Quinnen Williams trade.

2: The Cowboys own their second-round pick. This is the easiest one in the entire discussion.

4: While the Cowboys do own a fourth-round pick, it is not their original one. They own Pittsburgh’s fourth-rounder as it came to them in the Broderick Jones trade.

7: Similarly, the Cowboys do not own their original seventh-round pick. The one that they have came to them by way of the Nate Thomas trade. That deal happened with the Houston Texans, but Houston held the pick by way of the New England Patriots.

The Cowboys hardly have assets to give away next season as is, although they could obviously find a way to accrue some more in the offseason. You get the point, though.

Should the Cowboys be in on this? Maybe only if they go on a winning streak of sorts?

What do you think?
