Osa Odighizuwa was the last man standing, and now his watch has ended. The Dallas Cowboys traded Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday (they received a third-round pick, number 92 overall, in return) and as they did a certain chapter of their franchise history is now officially closed.

The 2021 draft class is now completely gone

Odighizuwa was the last member of the 2021 Cowboys draft class left on the team’s roster. Given that he just got a four-year, $80M extension from the team a year ago, it stood to reason that he would be around for a while. The NFL is fairly unpredictable though, obviously.

Odighizuwa being traded that means all connection to that particular NFL draft and the selections that the Cowboys made are out as well. The Cowboys had an incredible 11 picks when it was all said and done, and many of us believed that they would surely trade up at some point because of the totality of the ammunition.

The Cowboys actually held 11 picks because they traded back early in the draft. They began that draft with 10 picks, but Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn going right before them at 10 overall caused them to jump out with the Philadelphia Eagles who took DeVonta Smith. The New York Giants then bounced out of 11 so the Chicago Bears could take Justin Fields and that allowed the Cowboys to take Micah Parsons at 12.

2021 Dallas Cowboys Draft Class

  • 1: Micah Parsons
  • 2: Kelvin Joseph
  • 3: Osa Odighizuwa
  • 3: Chauncey Golston
  • 3: Nahshon Wright
  • 4: Jabril Cox
  • 4: Josh Ball
  • 5: Simi Fehoko
  • 6: Quinton Bohanna
  • 6: Israel Mukuamu
  • 7: Matt Farniok

There are a lot of former pet cats on this list, but it goes without saying that Parsons and Odighizuwa stood out among the group. The two were ultimately traded away within a seven-month span. Again, the NFL can be a tricky business sometimes.
