The best ability is availability. This is true in general when it comes to the NFL, but it is paramount when you are fighting for a roster spot. Such is the case for rookie, undrafted tight end Michael Trigg, and unfortunately for him he missed one of the more critical practices of training camp on Tuesday with a toe injury.

Tuesday was critical because it was the second joint practice of the summer for the Cowboys. Last week Dallas worked out with the Los Angeles Rams while this week they scrimmage against an old friend in Kellen Moore and his New Orleans Saints.

Obviously all practices are important for players on the bubble, but missing out on this one is a real bummer as it could have provided a chance for Trigg to shine. Trigg looked solid in the team’s preseason debut and unfortunately this toe injury popped up. We are around the time of year where roster gymnastics come into play so maybe there is a world where he is an IR stash.
