The Washington Commanders are getting back into their weekly grind after their Week 7 bye. The team is 1-4-1 and preparing to host the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch from Week 1. Dan Quinn spoke to reporters before the players hit the practice fields in Ashburn, VA, and provided some updates. The Commanders announced several moves before practice started, including Terry McLaurin to IR and Van Jefferson getting signed from the practice squad to add another wide receiver.

Quinn was asked about several injured players including Bill Croskey-Merritt(no update on groin injury). DT Javon Kinlaw suffered a knee injury before the bye, and it doesn’t sound like it’s likely he’ll be available for Sunday’s home game against the Eagles. Washington got some better DL news with the pending return of Jer’Zhan Newton (pec) who had his 21-day practice window opened this morning. WR Stefon Diggs won’t practice today, and Quinn said early-week vet rest days will likely be the plan for him for the remainder of the season to keep him fresh.

Quinn said Diggs' absence is not related to his hand or another injury. Said this will probably be the plan going forward to keep him fresh. They did this with a number of veterans the previous two years. https://t.co/Gw1ndb2ww7

Lack of pass rush:

Dan Quinn said he's "not pleased" with where the Commanders' pass rush is at now, but knows there's time/chances to improve that.

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) October 28, 2026

Dan Quinn said they "spent a lot of time" on getting the pass rush in synch with coverage. Said he hasn't been pleased with the pass rush — more goes into it than just the front.

Laremy Tunsil’s recovery:

Dan Quinn said Laremy Tunsil is a few weeks away from his next check-up and they expect to have a better sense then of the possibility of him returning. Said Tunsil has so far been on track with his recovery.

Practice

Javon Kinlaw not at practice today for the Commanders. Stefon Diggs isn’t either, as Quinn said earlier.

John Bates working off on a side field.

Otherwise everyone else on the active roster is accounted for, that I can see.

Great to see Commanders DT Johnny Newton back at practice today.
