Dan Quinn Talks About Mike Sainristil, Nick Allegretti, And Sonny Styles

Card image cap

Dan Quinn spoke to reporters for his weekly “Tell the Truth Monday” press conference. The Commanders lost their season opener to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-22, and now prepare for another road division game against the Cowboys. Quinn liked some things he saw like an improved defense, but also noted areas that need to be improved like the OL, Mike Sainristil, and defending the seam like vs Dallas Goedert on his touchdown play.

Four players left the game with injuries, and Quinn said the team would know more tomorrow, and provide injury updates after Wednesday’s practice. Frankie Luvu (groin), Chig Okonkwo (hamstring), Tyler Owens (ankle), and Jordan Magee (hamstring) didn’t return to the game after exiting.

Dorance Armstrong reinstated:

#Commanders DE Dorance Armstrong was reinstated today so he re-joins the 53 man roster. There was an open roster spot (last week the release of DJ Humphries) so no corresponding move.

Dallas Goedert TD:

Quinn said on the first Goedert TD, it was a version of cover-2. Said they're vulnerable down the seams and "that's where it hit."

Sonny Styles’ first game:

Quinn said they always knew blitzing was going to be a part of Sonny Styles' game, but he also handled other roles like wearing the green dot when Frankie Luvu left the game. That's the sign of a mature player, Quinn said

Nick Allegretti/O-line:

Dan Quinn on Nick Allegretti and the Commanders O-line: There were times it looked good there were times you’d like to have it again but it was a good hard divisional battle

Failed 2-point conversion:

Over the last 24 hours, Dan Quinn has been able to digest and reflect on that two point conversion attempt.

Today, DQ told me, "I thought it was a good play, it was one that we had practiced. With a well executed play I think we really got a great chance on the two point play." pic.twitter.com/4PwCDKg0AW

Dan Quinn on the 2 pt conversion after watching tape: I thought it was a good play and we had practiced it but there guy also made a good play. It’s an effective 2 point play. I don’t want to base it purely on the outcome.

Mike Sainristil TD allowed:

I asked Dan Quinn about what he saw with Mike Sainristil's coverage on the 9-yard TD and 64-yarder, both caught by Wicks.

On the TD: "To have that type of play and just not have the right focus at right time, completely not acceptable." pic.twitter.com/Rjjv1vVSU0

— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 14, 2026

Dan Quinn says the TD to Wicks is something Mikey Sainristil “has to get corrected.” DQ adds Sainristil is a competitor and will work hard to get things right
