De'von Achane Ruled Out In Week 3 After Limping Off Field With Knee Injury On Dolphins' First Drive

The Miami Dolphins came into the season with low expectations, but running back De'Von Achane was the one player who could carry the team to respectability. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they experienced their worst-case scenario in Week 3 as Achane limped off the field on the team's first offensive drive.

Achane's injury came on the team's fifth play of the game. He had three carries for 17 yards on the Dolphins' first drive before the injury.

Achane got up after the play, but was tended to by athletic trainers before he gingerly exited the field.

He eventually walked back to the locker room and was initially questionable to return with a knee injury. But shortly after halftime, the team ruled Achane out for the rest of the game. He was spotted standing with teammates on the sideline, though did not have his helmet on.

Any missed time for Achane would be devastating for a Dolphins team bereft of offensive talent. After cutting Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill, and trading away wideout Jaylen Waddle, Achane was the last man standing on offense.

While Miami could have traded away Achane, the team gave the 24-year-old a four-year, $68 million extension. He was expected to be the focal point of the team's new-look offense with Malik Willis under center.

Since joining the NFL in 2023, Achane has emerged as a star. He turned in his best NFL season last year, rushing for 1,350 yards and scoring eight rushing touchdowns. That performance resulted in Achane being elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
