Denver Broncos Have Cut Center Lecitus Smith

According to Zac Stevens of DNVR, the Denver Broncos have cut center Lecitus Smith today.

Smith signed with Denver on August 13th after Michael Deiter’s season-ending injury. He was a 2022 sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals and has appeared in 19 NFL games with three other teams.

When he was signed, the Broncos centers were dropping like flies and they desperately needed help to fill the rehabbing players.

Now, he joins a Broncos roster that is currently banged up at the center position. Starter Luke Wattenberg has missed most of training camp thus far and has just returned to practice, but will likely not play in Friday’s preseason opener. Backup Alex Forsyth has been sidelined all this week and seems unlikely to play in the game, and as we know, third-string center Michael Deiter suffered a season-ending injury.

He ended up backing up guard Calvin Throckmorton on the depth chart in preseason, so he might be on the outside looking in to get one of those 16 practice squad spots.
