Draymond Green Eyeing Three More Years In Nba After Encouraging Warriors Season
Draymond Green eyeing three more years in NBA after encouraging Warriors season originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Whether it will be with the Warriors or another NBA team, Draymond Green still wants to play basketball.
After an encouraging 2025-26 season in which Golden State clawed its way to a second game in the NBA play-in tournament with a 37-45 regular-season record, Green is optimistic about what the future holds for himself and the Warriors.
“I feel great, and I just want to go until I’m done,” Green said on the latest episode of “The Draymond Green Show.” “I think for me, that’s probably another three years.
“When I look at it, [during next] season, one big accomplishment is just being healthy all year, not having an injury that sat me down for a long time. That was a big deal for me, and hopefully, I end up on the All-Defense team and can get that tenth one.”
Throughout this season, the Warriors dealt with numerous injuries from Jimmy Butler’s torn ACL to Moses Moody’s torn patellar tendon. Steph Curry also missed two-plus months due to patellofemoral pain syndrome or “runner’s knee.”
Despite the adversities, Green enjoyed spending time, practicing, and playing with his teammates throughout the season.
“It wasn’t the easiest year,” Green expressed. “However, I loved the team. Loved my teammates. We had a very good group, so going to work every day was fun. It was just very unpredictable.
“You didn’t know from day to day who was going to be playing, and I’ve never been in a situation like that where you don’t know day to day who’s going to be in the starting lineup. And that was something that we faced this year. So, [we] obviously have to go back to the drawing board and see what’s best.”
Green has a player option for the upcoming 2026-27 season, giving the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year the opportunity to either stay in Golden State or opt out to become an unrestricted free agent. A contract extension is another possibility between Green and the Warriors’ front office this offseason.
“I’m looking forward to having all the conversations and trying to figure out what exactly it is that next year holds and in the years after that,” Green shared. “I think for myself personally, my body felt great. I’m excited about this summer because I feel like I can get a lot better.”
“Ultimately, also knowing that Joe Lacob hates losing, he’s going to make decisions to try to change that,” Green added. “Will that be in my favor or not? I don’t know. We’ll see, but like I said before, if this was it, it’s been a hell of a run.”
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft, Green has spent his entire career in Golden State, where he has won four championships and has become a four-time All-Star selection, a nine-time All-Defensive Team selection and a two-time All-NBA selection.
Regardless of what is next for Green, he will go down as one of the greats in Warriors franchise history and as one of the best defenders the game has ever seen.
