In an expected move, Las Vegas Raiders backup running back and returner Dylan Laube was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in their 38-33 victory at the New York Jets on Sunday in Week 8.

Laube, a third-year player, had a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter of the Raiders’ victory. The Raiders may not have won the game and snap their four-game losing streak had Laube not returned the kick for the score.

It was the first returned kick for a score in the NFL this season. It was the Raiders’ first kick return for a touchdown since wide receiver Jacoby Ford did it in 2011.

Laube is leading the NFL in kick return average at 34.1 yards a return. It is 2.8 yards per return higher than any other returner in the league. Only 4 players have finished a season with a higher average with the most recent coming in 1970.

The Raiders have won four games this season and this is their third player of the week honor. Rookie cornerback Zeke Masses won the Defensive Player of the Week award in Week 2 and tight end Brock Bowers won the Offensive Player of the Week award in Week 3. This is the first time a Raider has won the Special Teams Player of the Week since kicker won it in the 2021 season.
