Eagles, Jalen Carter Agree To Extension Reportedly Worth Up To $160m, Making Him Highest Paid Dt In Nfl

The Philadelphia Eagles and All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter have agreed to a lucrative contract extension.

The Eagles announced the deal Tuesday. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the extension is for four years and $152 million with $106 million guaranteed and escalators that could push it to $160 million. The contract makes him the NFL's highest paid defensive tackle.

The deal starts in 2028 and keeps Carter under contract with the Eagles through the 2031 season. The two sides got it done with two years remaining on his rookie contract, including his fifth-year option for 2027 valued at $27.1 million.

Carter, 25, was the No. 9 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He was runner-up for Rookie of the Year in 2023. He's been named to the Pro Bowl in both seasons since and was second-team All-Pro in 2024, the season the Eagles won the Super Bowl.

In three seasons, Carter has 108 combined tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, 37 quarterback hits, 13 passes defended, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. He's an anchor of Philadelphia's defense and will remain under the team's control through his prime.

The Eagles are coming off an 11-6 season and their second consecutive NFC East title. They suffered a disappointing loss at home in the wild-card round to the San Francisco 49ers and are seeking to bounce back to contend for the Super Bowl again this season. Carter is a significant part of those plans.
