The Eagles’ social-media team on Wednesday decided to trumpet an interception made by cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. The errant pass was thrown by quarterback Jalen Hurts. “Right on Q,” the caption declared. It’s a curious decision, given that the pressure seems to be increasing on Hurts. The Eagles, by all indications, expect him to run the offense as designed, and to execute the plays as called. As Derrick Gunn reported last season, internal frustration was growing over Hurts playing “his game” once the ball was snapped. Was it a situation of an intern gone rogue? Or was someone trying to send a message to Hurts, with the notion that it was simply a social-media intern gone rogue providing plausible deniability? [BLG Note: Lol, the way people are reacting to this clip is insane. It’s not that deep. Hurts, who’s had more ups than downs in camp, threw a pick to a really good cornerback. It happens! And it’s fine for the team to post it, just like they would post a clip of a touchdown catch where a defensive back gets beat!]

Nothing shocking about how the wide receivers are listed but it is notable to see Lemon with the starters despite the fact he’s missed a lot of time in camp and didn’t stand out prior to getting hurt. Makai Lemon might not actually be a Week 1 starter with the likes of Darius Cooper and Elijah Moore having strong summers. Or at least there could be a heavier receiver rotation than there’s been in recent years. Whereas Lemon is listed with the starters, the Eagles aren’t even pretending that Eli Stowers is a top two tight end right now. With the way the Eagles laid out tight end on this chart (see below), I don’t know that he’s even necessarily TE3. I tend to think Stowers might be a healthy scratch … early in the season, at least.

HOW MUCH CONCERN OVER MAKAI LEMON? It’s not panic time yet with Makai Lemon, but we’re not that far off. The more time the rookie WR misses the greater the chance that he won’t be WR2 once the season starts. Lemon not only missed most of the spring practices with a hamstring injury, he’s now been out for nearly two weeks with another hamstring injury, which he suffered in the indoor practice back on Aug. 3. That’s seven practices and counting that he’s missed. For a rookie trying to learn a new offense and work with new coaches and a new quarterback, this is really valuable time he’s missing. Mental reps are fine, but they’re no substitute for being out there with your teammates. But it’s not just that Lemon is missing so much time, the flip side of that is that it’s given the other receivers additional opportunities they wouldn’t have otherwise had, and Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore and Darius Cooper in particular have made the most of the extra reps to leapfrog Lemon. They’ve developed chemistry with Jalen Hurts, they’ve grown comfortable in a new offense, they’ve earned the trust of their coaches. And they’ve all made play after play. We’re still four weeks from opening day, but Lemon has a lot of work to do in a short period of time to make up for the time he’s missed, and I’m not sure he can do it. Honestly, it would be surprising if Lemon can earn that WR2 role by the opener. If you’re Hurts, who would you rather throw to? Guys who’ve been out there every day grinding, working, improving since Day 1 of camp and building chemistry or someone who’s been watching from the sideline? Now, if Lemon can find his way back on the field next week, maybe he can get back to where he needs to be. But the reality is even before the injury Lemon wasn’t flashing, and Wicks, Moore and Cooper have all been outstanding. They haven’t missed a rep and Lemon is going to have to be very good once he does get back just to get on the field by the opener.

You love to see this kind of bonding between players. Saquon Barkley has been very engaged this summer. He’s looked great. He has also talked a lot of trash and really been vocal with teammates. There is value in this type of competitive connection. Barkley is pushing his teammates to be their best. Some players have become more vocal as leaders. Jordan Davis has stepped up as a player and as a leader. He has really embraced being a key part of the team. His new contract seems to have brought out the best in him. Jordan Mailata has been more vocal this offseason. He’s become a key leader for the team. We’ve talked this offseason about how Jalen Hurts has embraced his role as the team leader. He’s been more vocal and spent more time in the spotlight. Hurts has always been a good leader. It just feels like he’s taken things to the next level. This connecting…being together is great, but now we need to see how it affects the performance of the players during the season. The 2017 team was tight and it led to a Super Bowl win. We’ll see what the 2026 team has in store for us.

The 2025 Eagles led the NFL with a style of play that to the layman’s eye can seem like lollygagging. The Eagles, who never totaled more than 37 plays snapped with one second left on the play clock in a given season under previous play callers Kellen Moore, Brian Johnson and Shane Steichen, led the league with 150 last-second plays under Patullo. The league average of plays with one second left on the play clock skyrocketed from 20.9 in 2024 to 73.2 in 2025, according to TruMedia. The league average hadn’t been greater than 23.4 since 2019. (The league average of total plays with three seconds or less also surged from 114.5 in 2024 to 200.9 in 2025.) There is a leading explanation for the surge, according to several coaches: Defensive play callers have been increasingly effective at disguising their coverages, and offenses adjusted by spending more time decoding at the line of scrimmage. That five teams other than the Eagles soared above 100 last-second plays in 2025 (the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers) builds the case for leaguewide heavy-thinking. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, widely renowned for masking his coverages, said he has noticed teams trying to “get into the perfect play” and subsequently running into the play clock.

How the Rams viewed the scrimmage with the Cowboys – Blogging The Boys
Dallas’ defense was legitimately disruptive. The Rams’ own reporting confirms that the Cowboys generated pressure and caused problems for the Rams’ quarterbacks. The Cowboys’ offense created real schematic problems. The Rams adjusted their coverage specifically because Dallas was moving Lamb and Pickens around to create favorable matchups. Dak’s mobility remained a major weapon. Even when the Rams won coverage, Prescott’s ability to extend plays and manipulate numbers created opportunities. The Rams’ defense may be considerably better than last year’s. They limited explosive plays against a Cowboys offense that LA itself considers one of the league’s best — and did it without Myles Garrett. So the most interesting conclusion from the L.A. side isn’t that Dallas’ defensive performance was overrated. It’s almost the opposite. Dallas’ defense really did have a strong day. But the Cowboys’ offense was good enough to force one of the NFL’s more intriguing new defenses to adjust its game plan.

Analyzing top storylines from Commanders training camp, joint practice – Hogs Haven
Commanders look good in joint practice with the Dolphins. Washington’s defense shined against a Dolphins team that is still trying to find an identity and consistent playmakers. Commanders edge rushers Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson looked good and overall the defense did a nice job shutting down De’Von Achane and the run game. The secondary held their own, including a pick-six by Mike Sainristil, but this should have been expected lined up across the Dolphins wide receiver corps. Daniels continues his strong play in camp and looks to be in complete command of Blough’s offense. Wide receivers were getting open at will during drills. The offensive line was the biggest concern of the day, with Josh Conerly having an up-and-down performance versus Chop Robinson and Matt Gulbin delivering a few bad snaps to quarterback Marcus Mariota. The squad looked better in pass protection than in the run game, which is to be expected as the team shifts to a wide-zone scheme that requires timing and cohesion from the offensive line. Hopefully, it will develop, but the team needs to get Nick Allegretti back at center.

NY Giants interested in Terrion Arnold because ‘we want to be aggressive in every way’ – Big Blue View
The New York Giants brought cornerback Terrion Arnold in for a free-agent visit on Wednesday despite the cornerback currently facing eight felony charges stemming from allegations that he orchestrated the kidnapping and beating of three men. Why would the Giants, a historically conservative organization, be willing to do that? “Because we want to be aggressive in every way, whatever we can do, find everything out we can about any situation player that can help us be better, probably. I would say that’s it,” head coach John Harbaugh said after practice on Wednesday. “The margins are tight in the National Football League. We’re looking for players that can help us all the time, and he’s a player that can help us.”
