Ranking the Eagles as the 16th best offense in the NFL feels fair, in part because it’s hard to know exactly where to put them. The feeling here is that they won’t be consistently mediocre as must as we could see some ups and downs. I also tend to think that progress won’t be linear in this situation but one would hope they’ll be hitting their stride on offense by later in the season. What say you?

Who Will Have the NFL’s Best Offense in 2026? – The Ringer

16) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. The bottom fell out of the Eagles offense last year under former coordinator Kevin Patullo. It finished 19th in EPA per drive and had the fifth-highest three-and-out rate in the NFL. A combination of run blocking regression and a failure to provide any surprises in the passing game culminated in a wild-card exit and one of the most miserable 11-win seasons in NFL history. The offense will look entirely different under new offensive coordinator and first-time play caller Sean Mannion, who most recently coached under Matt LaFleur in Green Bay. The Eagles have to replace A.J. Brown, which they’ll attempt to do in the aggregate through Dontayvion Wicks and rookie Makai Lemon. There will be more snaps under center and more throws over the middle. They’ll ask Jalen Hurts to throw with anticipation more frequently, and how well he adapts to these changes will determine how the Eagles offense fares this season. It could be a breakout year for DeVonta Smith if things break right—and he’s been elite without Brown on the field—but there may well be growing pains for the Eagles as they attempt to adjust to a new offensive scheme and face sky-high expectations.

It’s not easy advancing deep into January without a top-tier offense these days. Last season, of the top 10 teams in offensive points per game (OPPG) — we’re talking points scored by the offense only (defensive and/or kick return scores not included) — seven made the playoffs. Six of the eight teams that played in the Divisional Round ranked among the top 10 in OPPG, as did the teams that met in the Super Bowl.

Congrats to Jordan Davis, who is a first-time captain. No surprise there; he’s been an emerging leader on this team. That aspect is part of why the Eagles signed him to a long-term contract extension.

What I’m Worried About – Iggles Blitz

I mentioned Jalen Hurts as one of the things I’m excited to see. He also falls into the category of potential concerns. Hurts is learning a new offense and has new receivers to throw to. There are going to be some ups and downs. Hurts had some bad games in previous years, but he was always able to bounce back from them. Could all the new changes turn a bad game into multiple bad games? I think Hurts will be fine, but it is fair to acknowledge there could be real struggles. The passing game was erratic this summer. There are some reasons for that. Still, there are no guarantees things will go well. We will all be curious to see how Hurts plays this fall. Sean Mannion is a first time offensive coordinator. He’s stepped into a team with Super Bowl expectations. That is the standard in Philly these days. Mannion will have the pressure of dealing with rabid fans and one of the league’s biggest media contingents. He, and Hurts, will be living under a microscope. Everything we’ve heard about Mannion is promising, but he will have some ups and downs of his own. No new coordinator gets things perfect right away. You learn on the job. We’ll see how he handles Hurts, Nick Sirianni, fan pressure and media scrutiny. Mannion is getting ready to go one one heck of a roller coaster ride.

5) Makai Lemon, WR, Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia traded up to No. 20 for Lemon after he averaged 3.04 yards per route run in college and dropped just three of 190 career targets. With A.J. Brown gone, there are targets available, but Lemon still has to beat out Dontayvion Wicks for a bigger role. Lemon is a WR5 for now in fantasy leagues, with room to climb if he locks down the No. 2 job.

In just six NFL seasons, Jalen Hurts has rushed for 63 touchdowns and he needs seven to pass Steve Van Buren and set the franchise record. Van Buren rushed for 69 TDs in his eight-year career from 1944 through 1951. Hurts has 3,554 career rushing yards and needs 446 to become the seventh quarterback to reach 4,000 for his career. He would join Lamar Jackson (6,522), former Eagle Michael Vick (6,109), Cam Newton (5,628), Russell Wilson (5,568), former Eagle Randall Cunningham (4,928), Josh Allen (4,721) and Steve Young (4,239).

Bernard’s publicist, Adrian Fox, reached out to Aldridge and Damian to come out to the Jefferson Health Training Complex to lift Bernard’s spirits. The preseason compliments are nice and everything, but Eagles Secondary Coach Mike Pellegrino takes them for what they are truly worth: A whole lot of not much. As the world heaps praise on the team’s trio of cornerback talents – led by All-Pro players Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, along with first-year Eagle Riq Woolen – Pellegrino is taking a much more pragmatic approach. “I’ve always felt like the preseason expectations are great, that’s nice, but let’s see how we do when the ball is snapped. That’s always been my thing, because it’s a long season and you’re playing corner and you could be playing great 59 out of 60 plays, but everybody is going to be talking about that one play,” said Pellegrino, a coach with New England and Buffalo from 2015-2025 after his professional lacrosse career ended. “So, we just need to be consistent throughout the entire year and that’s the goal. “Three bad snaps isn’t good enough.” Pellegrino works with Joe Kasper in the defensive backfield working the various coverage combinations required in the Vic Fangio defense. Versatility is a plus and players like DeJean and Michael Carter and Jonathan Jones give the coaching staff some levers to pull for good production. His job: Get the players better. Bottom line.

This year the Cowboys have a more-important-than-normal game to start the season as it is against a division rival. The Giants have been a bit moribund for a decade now, but that doesn’t change the significance and weight of this being an NFC East matchup. What’s more, it is one of three that Dallas plays on the road across the season at large. It isn’t hyperbole to say that a win would be huge. Given potential tiebreakers down the road that is objectively undeniable. Unfortunately for the Cowboys they have a rather meek record in their last 10 season openers, coincidentally (and nicely for symmetry’s sake) this now encompasses the entire Dak Prescott era as he started all of these games.

Washington’s front seven could be backbone of the 2026 Commanders – Hogs Haven

Luvu had a down year last season, like plenty of Commanders, but new coaches have ways of reigniting the flame in players simply by demonstrating their belief in them. That’s where Luvu’s added responsibilities and leadership come in, especially with the departure of Bobby Wagner, who was the defensive general for Washington the last two seasons. While optimism about the front seven’s potential is warranted, it will continue to cause problems for the team if Washington cannot stop the run,. The interior line will go as far as Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw will take them, but Tim Settle and Shy Tuttle are essential pieces in the interior line. They’ll be relied on to be difference-makers in the run game and absorb blocks while maintaining gaps. It’s a selfless role, but it allows the rest of the defense to operate effectively. The front seven will be protecting its secondary and giving that unit plenty of opportunities to make plays on the football, but if the idea is to create havoc for the opposing quarterback and get them uncomfortable, this year’s unit is the best it’s been during Quinn’s tenure.

There’s an interesting dichotomy forming around the New York Giants. On one hand, there’s a pervasive sense of optimism surrounding the team. The Giants’ brass has believed that they have the core of a team capable of competing this year dating back to before free agency. Since that time, the additions to the roster have only strengthened that conviction. We’re still in hope season, but most fans have bought into the optimism as well. There are even some in the media who are whispering that the Giants could be a real sleeper despite Las Vegas giving the Giants’ the second-best odds to miss the playoffs in the NFC (per FanDuel). But there are also those who can’t shake the feeling of impending doom. It’s tough to blame them after a decade and a half of (mostly) being irrelevant. The overwhelming source of anxiety for fans lies on the defensive line — at least for now.

2026 Salary Cap Update – Over The Cap

The Eagles currently have the 16th most cap space in the league with just over $12 million.

Though the NFL will not switch to full season accounting until next week when the regular season starts, I did change our estimates to reflect in season accounting rules. During the offseason only the top 51 active players and other bonuses count on the salary cap for the active 90 man roster. When next week rolls around every player on the roster will count against the salary cap. While the numbers are very fluid right now and I am about a day behind on waivers, this can give us a picture of teams that are likely to be active in the coming days or those who did make a move or two we are not yet aware of.

LSU decides not to add Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to official roster – And The Valley Shook

For now, former Eagles UDFA signing Dae’Quan Wright will not be playing for LSU.

Despite being granted an injunction just a day ago, Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris were left off of the official roster when LSU submitted this evening. Yesterday’s court ruling appeared to pave the way for them to be added, but Kiffin and co. decided to opt for the safe route.

Report: Dianna Russini “absolutely” plans to return to sports media – PFT

I think most can guess where she’ll end up.

On the same day that The Athleticissued its internal review of the Dianna Russini situation, word has emerged that Russini “absolutely” intends to return to sports media. Via Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Russini has had discussions regarding several opportunities, “ranging from pro football insider to opinionist/personality.” McCarthy adds that Russini expects to make her next move “sooner rather than later.”
