The Eagles are signing former Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue to their practice squad, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday night.

Blue, 22, was drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round last year out of Texas. Dallas waived Blue at final cuts a couple days ago after he failed to win their backup running back job.

As a rookie, Blue (5-9, 198) played in five games with the Cowboys. He had 38 rushing attempts for 129 yards (3.4) and 1 touchdown. He also had one catch for 5 yards.

Blue was selected by the Cowboys with pick No. 149 in the 2025 draft and some thought he would go higher after running a 4.38-second time in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. That was the second-fastest time for a running back in Indy last year.

The Eagles now have three running backs on their active roster (Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley) and three running backs on their practice squad (Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele, Blue). But Blue is a different kind of back than Pierce and Steele, who are definitely more of bruisers.

Blue is an explosive, speedy and elusive athlete, who showed ability as a runner and a receiver during his time at Texas.

Here’s what The Athletic’s Dane Brugler wrote about Blue during the 2025 pre-draft process:

“Blue moves with electricity in his feet to make defenders miss in a phone booth and is at his best as a pass catcher on screens, angles and wheels (No. 1 among FBS running backs with six receiving touchdowns). An undersized back, he is inconsistent working through traffic and must improve his ball security at the next level (fumbled once every 25 times he touched the ball in 2024). Overall, Blue is a threat to make a house call at any point, especially as a receiving weapon out of the backfield, but NFL scouts say he may need time to learn what it takes to be a professional. His dynamic talent can upgrade a backfield.”

In the 2024 season at Texas, Blue rushed for 730 yards and 8 touchdowns with a 5.4 average, and also caught 42 passes for 368 yards and 6 more touchdowns.
