Eagles Rule Wr Devonta Smith Out For Week 4 Game Vs. Rams Due To Hamstring Injury
The Philadelphia Eagles mustered only seven points during a "Monday Night Football" defeat to the Case Keenum-led Chicago Bears in Week 3. If the 2-1 Eagles are going to get back on track on Sunday versus the 1-2 Los Angeles Rams, they'll have to do so without Jalen Hurts' top wideout, DeVonta Smith.
Philadelphia ruled Smith out Friday with a hamstring injury that first popped up on the injury report in the buildup to the Bears game.
The 27-year-old Smith missed the Eagles' first practice ahead of that primetime showdown in Chicago and then was limited in the next practice before fully participating in the final session, leading Philadelphia with six grabs and 65 receiving yards in the loss.
He hasn't practiced since, however.
Meanwhile, L.A. will have its star receiver, Puka Nacua, back in the fold, albeit likely on a snap count. Nacua missed the past two games with a hip injury.
The Eagles also won't have linebacker Zack Baun (concussion) or tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) for the matchup, a rematch of last season's Week 3 thriller that ended with Philadelphia defensive tackle Jordan Davis blocking a potential game-winning field goal and returning it for a touchdown.
Smith, Baun and Goedert are three of six Philadelphia players who've already been designated as out for Sunday's contest. The others are wide receiver Hollywood Brown, safety Marcus Epps and offensive tackle Fred Johnson.
A silver lining for the Eagles is they won't have to face either of the Rams' titanic defensive lineman, Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett.
Garrett has a ways to go in his return from knee surgery, and Donald will be sidelined this week by a back injury. Donald registered a combined four tackles over his first two games back in the league, following two seasons away from the NFL.

Baun, a Pro Bowler in both 2024 and 2025, is a key component of the Eagles defense Vic Fangio coordinates.
His absence, along with that of Smith and Goedert, will call for other Philadelphia players to step up in a pivotal early-season head-to-head between a pair of NFC powers.
"There's ups and downs in every season," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters on Friday.
"There's high points, there's low points, there's wins, there's losses. And there's guys at times that are going to be in, there's guys at times that are going to be out. Our job is to go through the same process each and every week and be able to do our jobs as coaches to account for the guys that may or may not be playing and for the guys that are stepping in for them to be ready to go."
He later added: "And, so, yeah, I know it's boring and you probably could say, 'Hey, that's just coach talk,' but … you got to have faith in the process until the process produces results in everything that you do. And, so, business as usual this week, and I got a lot of faith with all the guys in this building."
