Eagles Surprisingly Rule Out Lineman Against Rams Due To 'personal Reasons'
A daunting matchup for the Philadelphia Eagles unexpectedly got worse, apparently, on Sunday morning.
Roughly two hours before their 1 p.m. ET kickoff against the Los Angeles Rams at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles announced that right tackle Lane Johnson, a team captain and one of the most respected players in franchise history, was questionable to play due to personal reasons. A half hour later, Johnson was officially ruled out. The Eagles provided no further explanation for Johnson's absence.
Johnson's backup, veteran Fred Johnson, was also inactive, meaning rookie Markel Bell will likely be forced into the starting lineup.
The Eagles are 18-29 all-time without Johnson, the fourth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, a six-time Pro Bowler and a key member of the 2017 and 2024 Super Bowl champions.
Eagles missing several key players vs. Rams
In addition to Lane Johnson and swing tackle Fred Johnson, Philadelphia is also without several other starters Sunday. WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring), LB Zach Baun (concussion) and TE Dallas Goedert (knee) won't play, either.
