Eagles Trade 2-time Pro Bowl Center Cam Jurgens To Ravens In Exchange For Pair Of Draft Picks

The Philadelphia Eagles will face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in London without three of their starting offensive linemen from opening day.

Three-time Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson went on injured reserve with a knee issue after the season opener. Six-time Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson suddenly retired on Tuesday.

And on Wednesday, the Eagles announced they've agreed to trade two-time Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens, along with a 2027 seventh-round pick, to the Baltimore Ravens. In return, the Eagles have received a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

Jurgens, who's in concussion protocol after self-reporting symptoms following Philadelphia's gut-wrenching defeat to the Los Angles Rams last week, had been playing left guard in Dickerson's stead.

He slid over while second-year lineman Drew Kendall, a fifth-round pick out of Boston College, assumed the reins at center in Week 2. Kendall is set to make his fourth consecutive start at the position this weekend versus the Jags.

The Eagles appear secure with Kendall going forward, moving on from Jurgens and capitalizing on a deal with a center-needy Ravens squad.

Baltimore lost three-time Pro Bowler Tyler Linderbaum to the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency. Then it watched centers Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic go down with injuries. The Ravens had pushed rookie right guard Vega Ioane inside for their Week 4 win over the Tennessee Titans.

While Jurgens reportedly isn't expected to play this week on the road versus the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore will likely be able to return Ioane to guard in Week 6, when the Ravens take on the Browns in Cleveland. That's when Jurgens is slated to debut with his new team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Cam is a player we have long admired going all the way back to the draft process," Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said Wednesday in a statement.

"He's a young foundational piece along our offensive line — a great scheme and cultural fit who will contribute quickly in Baltimore. We are confident that Cam will significantly impact our team and community."

With the 2028 second-round pick the Eagles acquired in the deal, they now have two second-round picks in that year's draft (theirs and the Ravens'). Plus, they already had a pair of 2028 first-round picks (theirs and the New England Patriots').

In the short term, though, Philadelphia will have to handle even more change up front. The loss of Johnson was seismic, not only for the O-line but also for the locker room. A group that saw its longtime position coach, Jeff Stoutland, go in the offseason, and then experienced a significant schematic shift under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, will now feature three starters in Week 5 who were reserves when the season began.

Kendall will continue on in the middle. Either Willie Lampkin or sixth-round rookie Micah Morris will take over at left guard. At right tackle, third-round rookie Markel Bell has been pressed into duty.

Mannion's offense has struggled mightily of late and is still looking to find its stride. Injuries have added to anticipated growing pains. The Eagles finished the Rams game without several key contributors, including wideout DeVonta Smith (hamstring), tight end Dallas Goedert (concussion) and running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring).

The running back room, in particular, has been hit hard by the injury bug. Barkley's status is up in the air for Sunday's game, and his backup, Tank Bigsby, is on IR with an injury that reportedly called for core muscle surgery.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts could have his hands full against the surging, 3-1 Jags across the pond.
