Fantasy Football Bold Predictions For Week 6
Week 6 is in full swing after the Broncos narrowly defeated the Seahawks on TNF. With that, we await the rest of the slate. Here, our Yahoo analysts share their one bold prediction for Week 6 fantasy football.
Carnell Tate goes for 80 yards and a TD
As usual, the Titans are projected to be one of the lowest-scoring teams on the Week 6 slate. Yet, I can see a path to their WR1 finding a usable week. Carnell Tate has the 13th-highest target share in the NFL and the third-highest air-yard share (46%). Tennessee is one of the most concentrated offenses, with Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson owning almost 47% of the team's targets between them.
While Robinson is the primary slot option, the Titans are rotating Elic Ayomanor and Calvin Ridley as their sacrificial X-receiver so that they can use Tate off the ball and move him around as the Z. He runs 26% of his routes from the slot. The Colts allow the fourth-fewest yards to receivers lined up outside but an NFL-high 118 yards per game to receivers lined up in the slot, per Fantasy Points Data. All Tate needs is a few downfield routes from the slot to make this work. Tate is averaging 18.4 air yards per target when he shifts inside. — Matt Harmon
Blake Corum finishes as a top-20 RB
Kyren Williams is the Rams' unquestioned lead back, but this week Corum is also set up to be a fantasy starter. Sean McVay's crew is 12.5-point favorites at home against the Cardinals, which should allow them to lean on their backfield even more than usual en route to a victory.
In their two matchups with Arizona last season, Corum played around a third of the snaps, turning 14 touches into 69 scrimmage yards in one outing and 13 touches into 131 yards and two scores in the other. So far this season, Corum has topped 70 yards twice, including last week's 72-yard, one-touchdown effort against the Bills. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are top 10 in terms of most rushing yards and touchdowns allowed through five weeks. Though it's always risky playing a No. 2 back in your starting lineup, Corum deserves consideration — especially with four teams on bye. — Justin Boone

Devaughn Vele sneaks into the top 20 at WR
We've got multiple teams with high-end receivers on bye this week. Combined with injuries and QB concerns elsewhere, a home run from one of our WR spots might be too much to ask in Week 6. But Devaughn Vele at least gives us a shot at a double. Even last week, as Tyler Shough was going through the buzz saw that is the Vikings' defense, Vele hit a season-high 26% target share as Alvin Kamara's snaps and targets waned while he worked through a back injury.
New York blitzes at the third-highest rate, but Shough's response has been a quicker release (avg. 2.4 seconds) to the short area of the field (6.3-yard aDOT). Vele is right behind Chris Olave in targets when defenses send more than five, and he has out-targeted Olave if the protection breaks down. The Giants' offense against New Orleans' defense is already a situation that should force Shough and Co. into a pass-first script. With Vele in position to earn another high-end workload, he's a strong WR2 play for Week 6. — Chris Allen
Jayden Daniels finishes outside the top-12 QBs
Jayden Daniels is sitting at QB7 in consensus, but I'm calling for him to finish outside the top 12 against San Francisco. His rushing explosion against the Giants reminded everybody of his ceiling. I get it. But this matchup gives me reasons to expect a frustrating fantasy performance Monday night.
The 49ers have allowed the third-fewest yards per pass attempt and eighth-lowest passing success rate. Daniels ranks fifth-lowest in yards per attempt among 30 qualified quarterbacks. That puts pressure on Daniels' legs to carry his fantasy production again, because the passing matchup offers very little room for error.
That rushing ability makes this a bold call. Daniels can rescue a disappointing passing performance with one scramble, and Washington chasing points could give him extra opportunities. I'm still betting San Francisco makes those possessions difficult enough to keep him outside the top 12. The ceiling is obvious. This week, I'm calling for the matchup to win out. — Ray Garvin
Rome Odunze finishes as a top-20 WR
With Caleb Williams expected back from his hamstring injury, the Bears are immediately back to being projected for 26.0 points (5th). The Bears' whack-a-mole between the skill group should become more bearable with more yards and points available to the entire offense, and of the skill group, Odunze is playing the most snaps. He played 99% of them last week. Odunze is getting valuable work as the WR31 in expected half PPR points over the last month with backup QBs and weather playing a factor, so it's simply about playing better football.
I really hope his outlandish drops don't keep showing up, but if they don't there is a pretty straight-forward case for him to be fantasy viable alongside Luther Burden III, Colston Loveland and D'Andre Swift. Atlanta has also surrendered plenty of production to pass-catchers, ranking eighth in half PPR points allowed to WRs at 30.4 points per contest. They're missing CB1 AJ Terrell and their top pure pass-rushers, while only allowing 80 rushing yards per game so far. It's a pass funnel unit in neutral spots. — Hayden Winks
Marvin Harrison Jr. has two catches or fewer
Maybe this isn't a bold prediction, given the lackluster production Harrison has shown the last couple of years. But the public hasn't quit Harrison yet, so we need to have a conversation. The recent track record for receivers traded in the middle of a season is not good, and the Texans already have their off-the-bus target hog in Nico Collins. And the Texans don't deserve the benefit of the doubt here — heck, they traded for Kayshon Boutte in late August and he doesn't have a touchdown or a 40-yard game yet. Whatever Harrison and C.J. Stroud had working at Ohio State four years ago doesn't move me now.
My main inclusion of this script is to remind you that fantasy football is a game about numbers, not names. Harrison is still rostered in 79% of Yahoo leagues, which doesn't make sense. Go chase some upside somewhere else. — Scott Pianowski
Germie Bernard finishes as a top-24 WR
The Bucs defense is a great opportunity for the Steelers to fully lean into their offensive identity, which has been passing over expectation at the fourth-highest rate in the league. Most teams cannot run on Vita Vea and this front, and instead attempt to replace Todd Bowles' blitz looks as the Bucs still struggle to create pressure without sending extra rushers.
According to Rich Hribar, opposing passers have thrown the ball within 2.65 seconds of the snap against Tampa Bay, the second-fastest in the league. That's Aaron Rodgers' ball. And why Germie? He is now playing 94% of the team's dropbacks and spending 55% of that time in the slot. Even despite a few drops, Rodgers continues to go back to Bernard series after series. That's uncommon and makes the rookie an instant start off the waiver wire for many fantasy lineups. — Josh Norris
Dallas Goedert scores 15+ with Tanner McKee
We have an extremely small sample of these two on the field together, but it is hilariously good. On Goedert's nine routes with McKee at QB, he was targeted six times for 55 yards. The Eagles TE has been a target magnet this season in limited playing time and backup QBs often give extra focus to tight ends in the passing game.
With a struggling run game and their top two receivers dealing with injuries, I'd expect a healthy dose of Goedert in this one. Carolina ranks 27th versus TEs to begin the season with +5.7 PPG allowed over the average to the position. In McKee's two starts, he's crossed 240 passing yards each time, actually beating Jalen Hurts average over the last few years by a good margin. I'd expect another pass heavy day with a middling run game and banged up secondary. — Joel Smyth
