It is awful news that Jaylen Watson is out for the year, and you have to wish the player all the best. On the flip side, Myles Garrett is coming back for the Los Angeles Rams, right?

Garrett hasn’t played since Week 1 and he’s practicing this week, but no announcement has been made that he’ll be playing this Sunday or next Sunday, but unless there is a setback, the expectation is that he will be playing. Eventually.

For Watson, his season ends just as the Rams were hoping to really get their year rolling. Watson has been tremendous, but he’s been nursing a shoulder injury since earlier this year (at least since their game against the Denver Broncos), and at a certain point, it is better to shut a player down than risk further injury. It’s better for the player, and the Rams expect to have Watson another couple seasons, so let him heal.

Still, the news is a bummer for the person, and for the team, to put it lightly.

In other news Quentin Lake was talking some smack on Justin Herbert. So there’s that.

“But Watson missed a game earlier this season after dislocating his shoulder, and the two-time Super Bowl champion hurt that shoulder again in the Rams’ 24-9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday.

“That’s a big blow, a bummer for him,” McVay said. “He’s been such a stud for us. He wanted to be able to play through it, but just kind of understanding the totality of it all, it was recommended for him to get that surgery, and he’ll be on IR. He’s been awesome, and whenever he gets back next year, we’ll be better. He’s been everything and that much more that we’d hoped.”

“But Garrett was in practice with his teammates for the first time since his zero-tackle Rams debut in Australia nearly two months ago. The two-time AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year had knee surgery and missed seven games.

McVay isn’t certain whether Garrett will be ready to play at Washington, saying the Rams will make that decision later in the week. Garrett will take about half of the practice reps on Wednesday to see how his body responds.

“It’s exciting,” McVay said. “It’s great to be able to get him back out there. Just trying to stay in the moment, one day at a time.”

Rams star safety cooks Justin Herbert for ‘throwing deli meat’ in Chargers loss (nypost)

“I mean, [Herbert] was throwing deli meat out there. He’s seeing ghosts, I’m not going to lie,” Lake said with a laugh during his appearance on the “St. Brown Podcast.”

“Bro, I don’t know what’s going on, but we knew we were getting a couple,” he added.

Herbert has been the butt of many jokes this season — and for good reason.

But it’s one thing for fans to roast Herbert about his mediocre performances. It’s another thing for one of his peers to do so on a podcast, where the whole world can hear about it.“

“”Unfortunately, Jaylen Watson has to get surgery on his shoulder. He will be out for the year. That’s a big one,” said Rams’ head coach Sean McVay on Wednesday afternoon. “He’s been such a stud for us. He wanted to be able to play through it, but just understanding the totality of it all and some of the different things, it was recommended that he get that surgery.”

McVay added that Watson will be put on IR for the rest of the year.

Watson aggravated the dislocated right shoulder he suffered against the Denver Broncos earlier this season during the Rams’ win against the Los Angeles Chargers this past weekend.“

With no-huddle offense working so well, could Rams use it more? (ramswire)

“The numbers do not do the situation justice in terms of how much the offense benefited from going at a faster pace. With their no-huddle approach, the Rams ran five plays on their final drive of the half, going 66 yards, with Matthew Stafford throwing four completions on four attempts before Kyren Williams ran in the score.

The Rams caught the Chargers struggling to organize defensively, with Tutu Atwell burning his defender for a 40-yard gain, setting the Rams up in the red zone. Before that drive, the Rams had five other drives, and they were awful. Three points, no first downs, and their only score came after an interception by Quentin Lake that set the Rams up in the red zone.“

Rams May Be Better Equipped to Overcome Jaylen Watson Injury Than Expected (si.com)

“With Watson out, the Rams will be relying on Josh Wallace and Emmanuel Forbes in his spot. While there is certainly a difference in being a rotational player and playing full time, the Rams have gotten good production out of Wallace and Forbes this season.

“I think those guys have done really well,” said head coach Sean McVay. “Jimmy Lake has done such a great job really with those corners as a whole group. Josh has played a lot of snaps. I thought ‘E-Forbes’ really played well last week. Both of those guys have been tapped in. They’ve been ready to step up and it seems like there have been a lot of games that we’ve had our top corners get banged up and they’ve played a lot more.”

Rams stars get emotional over Jaylen Watson’s devastating injury: ‘We’re going to do it for him’ (sports.yahoo)

“Linebacker Byron Young went one step further, dedicating the remainder of the season to Watson, injured defensive tackle Poona Ford and the other teammates whose seasons have ended prematurely.

“I hate to lose a guy like that, but we’re going to keep going,” Young said. “We’re going to do it for him.”

Watson’s season is over, but his influence isn’t. Lake believes the veteran’s football intelligence and leadership can continue helping the secondary from the sidelines during his recovery.“

3 things for the Rams to know about the Commanders (ramswire)

“Washington may not win, but it won’t be for a lack of trying

Washington’s effort level this season has been unreal, and for a team that has been struggling, there’s a reason why head coach Dan Quinn’s seat isn’t as hot as others in the NFL. The Commanders play with a passion and an attitude that goes above and beyond. It feels like there’s a real belief within the organization behind what they’re about, and if they can clean up their on-field operation – especially with penalties – they could turn the corner.“

Rams-Commanders injury report: McDuffie, Curl DNP to start Week 9 (ramswire)

“The Rams released their first injury report of Week 9 on Wednesday and a total of 12 players were listed on it, five of them being non-participants. McDuffie did not practice, nor did Colby Parkinson, Kam Curl or Joe Cardona. McDuffie injured his back last week against the Chargers, Parkinson is still dealing with a rib injury and Curl picked up a foot injury.

There is some good news, though. Myles Garrett, Terrance Ferguson and Ronnie Rivers were all designated to return and were back at practice. None of them have been activated from IR yet but it’s a good sign that they’re practicing again. Rivers was a full participant, and Garrett and Ferguson were both limited.“

Commanders dealing with injuries on defensive line ahead of matchup with Rams (nbcwashington)

“Defensive linemen Javon Kinlaw and Daron Payne were both placed on injured reserve, with their seasons likely both over, coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday. Kinlaw had knee surgery, while Payne has a foot injury.

And yet, Washington’s defensive line has been a mostly consistent unit so far this year, even as the defense has had issues elsewhere through the course of two months.

“I just think the mentality and tenacity that we set as a defensive unit in general, I think that’s been helping us a lot and that’s going to continue to carry us a long way,” outside linebacker K’Lavon Chiasson said. “Continue to fight that fight, stop the run and find a way to get the ball off the ballcarrier. That’s going to carry us.”
