Giants Head Coach John Harbaugh Impressed With Odell Beckham Jr.'s 'best Week Of Camp'

One of the most notable storylines at Giants training camp this year is whether or not Odell Beckham Jr. will make the roster in his first year back with his former team.

Beckham, a fan favorite who is two years removed from playing in the NFL after seeing limited action with the Miami Dolphins in 2024, has had a solid camp thus far as he looks to resurrect his career, but it hasn't exactly transferred on the field as he's had just four catches for 23 yards in two preseason games.

Nevertheless, the 33-year-old has impressed head coach John Harbaugh, who was Beckham's coach with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 when the wide receiver had 565 yards and three touchdowns on 35 catches. 

In fact, when asked how Beckham has been performing so far in camp, Harbaugh spoke well of the veteran pass-catcher.

"I think Odell has had a good camp, but I would say his best week of camp has come this week," Harbaugh said. "He’s looked good and made numerous plays and just like you saw even today, made numerous plays. So he’s doing well."

According to SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes, Beckham "had another really active day in practice" on Wednesday in which he caught a long touchdown pass from Jameis Winston on a contested throw in the back of the end zone and hauled in another touchdown from Jaxson Dart in a red-zone drill.

Following the news of Calvin Austin's torn ACL suffered during Tuesday's practice -- a big blow to Big Blue's offense -- Beckham's chances of making the team increased, as does his role in an interesting wide receiver room if he does. After all, even at 33 years old, Beckham still possesses great athleticism and has even broken out his patented one-handed catch during practice.

"We'll have to readjust. The roles have to be filled, those jobs have to be done, and the next person will do them," Harbaugh said regarding how Austin's absence affects the wide receiver room.

Speaking of Giants wide receivers, Malik Nabers left Wednesday's practice early and walked inside with the team's return to play coordinator after looking good running routes during team drills. 

Harbaugh confirmed after practice that Nabers leaving was not part of the day's plan, although he also said that the wide receiver is not injured. Nabers, of course, suffered a knee injury in Week 4 of last season and has been working his way back to the field since then. 

The 23-year-old has made great strides in returning to the Giants during training camp and even shed his non-contact jersey earlier in the week which has him trending towards playing Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
