The New York Giants are placing cornerback Paulson Adebo on injured reserve with a knee issue, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed to media at practice on Friday.

Adebo, in the second year of a three-year, $54 million contract, struggled this spring and summer and did not start in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. Greg Newsome and Deonte Banks did. Adebo played only 10 snaps in that game.

Adebo also missed five games last season with a knee injury. Expected to be the Giants’ No. 1 cornerback when he signed in free agency, Adebo has not played up to that expectation.

The Giants reportedly signed cornerback Nikko Reed off the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad on Monday, meaning he would take Adebo’s roster spot.

The Giants also added cornerback Jaden Robinson to the practice squad, dropping offensive tackle Ryan Schernecke.

Banks did not practice on Friday. He is dealing with a calf injury.

It isn’t injury-related, but Harbaugh confirmed that defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson was not at practice due to a personal matter.
