Giants Sign Fb/dl Grant Finley, Waive Te Tyler Moore
Fullback enjoyers rejoice. The New York Giants announced that they’ve signed fullback / defensive lineman Grant Finley.
Finley is an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western who played both sides of the ball over his three years. He has solid measurables for both fullback and defensive line, standing 6-foot-4, 281 pounds and is a solid athlete for either position. He turned a 4.88-second 40-yard dash, with a 32-inch vertical and 9-foot-11 broad jump, at the Missouri Western Pro Day.
Finley previously worked out for the Giants at their rookie minicamp in May.
Head coach John Harbaugh has committed to a power run game, bringing in run game guru Greg Roman as well as All-Pro and Pro Bowl fullback Patrick Ricard. Adding a second fullback is an oddity in the modern NFL, but it does allow the Giants to practice their 21-Personnel plays while keeping reps off of the 32-year old Ricard. The Giants could also view Finley as a developmental player who could take over for Ricard in the future.
He does also have some upside on the defensive side of the ball as well. He has 16 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, and six passes defensed over the last three years at Missouri Western.
The Giants waived tight end Tyler Moore, who was signed shortly before the start of training camp, in a corresponding roster move.
