Greg Rousseau Earns Afc Special Teams Player Of The Week After Blocked Fg In Overtime
Greg Rousseau is collecting NFL honors in more than one department. Less than two weeks after earning AFC defensive honors for the month of September, “Groot” adds another award for a game-saving block.
The Buffalo Bills standout was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 5 after blocking Harrison Mevis’ potential game-winning 48-yard field goal in overtime Monday night. The play gave Buffalo another possession, and Tyler Bass finished the job with a 45-yard kick to secure a 37-34 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
It is Rousseau’s first career AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award and Buffalo’s first in the category since Bass earned the honor in Week 9 of the 2024 season.
According to the Bills PR, it was the NFL’s first blocked field goal in overtime since Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt blocked an attempt against Cleveland on September 9, 2018. It was also the first overtime field-goal block that led to a victory since San Francisco’s Dontae Johnson blocked one against St. Louis on January 3, 2016, during the 2015 season.
Buffalo’s previous field-goal block came at Atlanta on October 13, 2025. The player responsible? Rousseau.
Joe Brady awarded Rousseau a game ball after Monday’s win, telling the locker room, “I’ll never get tired of giving him game balls.” With Rousseau finding new ways to change games, Brady may want to keep a few extras handy.
