The Cincinnati Bengals had a joint practice with the Chicago Bears this afternoon, and almost everything went off without a hitch.

Of course, a few scuffles popped up during these things, but one in particular involved Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Reporters on the scene said that Dayo Odeyingbo held onto Burrow’s jersey and refused to let go, causing a brief scuffle that thankfully did not escalate further.

You imagine there will be fights over contact. Especially the guys constantly colliding in the trenches, but for a defender to make contact with an opposing team’s quarterback in this situation is fairly uncalled for.

I won’t go as far as to say it was dirty as much as it is just a dumb thing to do. It is not surprising to hear this led to a fight.

When recounting what happened, Burrow and his top wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase had two very different reactions.

“We better f***ing protect Joe,” Chase said of the incident.

Joe Burrow said “sh*t happens,” when asked about the contact and dust up during today’s joint practice with the Bears.

It is safe to say we are all Chase in this instance. At best, he was trying to simulate blocking on an interception despite the very obvious rule of not touching the quarterback. At worst, he was trying to look like a tough guy, which is somehow even dumber than the first thing.

No team that has a quarterback of Burrow’s caliber wants any defender doing something dumb like this in a joint practice. Nothing good comes from it, but thankfully, nothing bad came from this incident.
