Joe Tippmann’s four-year contract extension is $62 million, per source. He receives $31 million in new guaranteed money. The deal averages $15.5 million per year. @RapSheet first on the agreement.

This whole thing seems pretty simple to me. The Jets have all the salary cap space they need. The most efficient use of cap space is retaining the quality players already on your team.
You bid against 31 other teams for free agents. When you lock up a player like Tippmann a year early, you frequently get a discount. The player might leave a bit of money on the table in exchange for the financial security of a long-term deal.
I don’t think it’s outrageous at all to think that Tippmann likely could have gotten more money had he hit the open market a year from now.
Tippmann is slated to start at right guard for the Jets in 2026. He also has a track record of success playing center. Which position will he play in the long run? We can’t say for sure. What we do know is that he will be staying with the Jets, and that is a good thing
