After the NFL Draft, one of the top business items for the Jets was working out a long-term contract extension with running back Breece Hall. Hall was given the franchise tag at the start of the offseason, but the team had indicated that getting a deal done was a priority.

Hall has agreed to a three year extension.

BREAKING: The #Jets and RB Breece Hall are in agreement on a 3-year deal worth up to $45.75M, making him the NFL’s 3rd highest paid RB, per multiple sources.

This is a big payday for Hall. As noted, it gives him the third highest annual salary in the league at the running back position. It’s difficult to say that Hall’s performance to date justifies a salary in that stratosphere.

But I still think this deal makes sense from the Jets’ perspective. You can make a pretty strong case that Hall is worth more to the Jets than he is to most other teams. After years of tight salary cap situations, the Jets have finally worked most of the bad money off their books. They have few veterans on big contracts, giving them more cap space than they could likely spend the last couple of years.

What the Jets need are quality players. They particularly want quality on offense where they are looking to build a solid infrastructure around a likely first round pick at quarterback in 2027. Thus being willing to stretch financially to keep a good weapon like Hall is logical.

❤️ Shoutout everyone in my corner. Lot of work left to do. God Bless ???????? #JETShttps://t.co/zJEoxBs93Z
