Jets Elevate Sterling Shepard From Practice Squad, Sign Jamaal Pritchett To Roster

Very shorthanded in their WR room, the Jets are making additions prior to Sunday’s Week 3 meeting with the Lions.

One of them will be a very familiar face to the local fans, as former GiantSterling Shepard has been elevated from the practice squad for the first time.

Shepard joined the team last week after being cut by the Texans out of camp.

The 33-year-old wideout used these past couple of days to get acclimated with the new squad, and now he appears ready to provide a boost for the shorthanded offense.

Shepard appeared in 13 games with the Bucs last season, hauling in 39 passes for 371 yards and one touchdown.

The Jets have also signed WR Jamaal Pritchett to the active roster.

Pritchett is finally receiving his first opportunity with the pro club after spending the entirety of last season on Gang Green’s practice squad.

While he’s mainly been praised as a special team specialist, him and Shepard provide the Jets with some WR help and extra insurance in the event Adonai Mitchell is out with his hand injury.

On top of Mitchell's uncertainty, New York is already without Arian Smith (ACL) and Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle).
