Jets Wr Garrett Wilson Says He Will Not Request Trade Before Deadline: 'i Want To Be Here'
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson said that he has not asked to be traded and will not ask for New York to deal him ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline.
"Yeah, I want to be here,” Wilson said on Wednesday. "I want to win games. That's the one thing we've been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest. But I'm hopeful.
"I’ve never been the best optimistic guy, but I found a way and dug deep, and I’ve been optimistic for three, four, five years now. That’s why these ones each weekend hurt a little more."
Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets in July 2025.
Despite the rumor mill heating up before the Nov. 10 deadline, Wilson added, "At the end of the day, I got no clue on stuff like that."
He added that while he is not immune to seeing the deadline chatter on social media, he doesn’t let the rumor mill impact his mentality.
"I’m big on… controlling what I can control," Wilson said. "That’s the reality of things when you lose is that stuff like that comes up. And we saw it last year -- we’ve seen it before throughout the history of time.
"My name happens to be flying around in that, but that’s just how the business goes. I try to control what I can control: go out and run good routes, catch the ball when it's thrown my way, have a good impact on my teammates."
Wilson said that even with the rumors, he hasn’t felt the need to speak with general manager Darren Mougey or head coach Aaron Glenn to reiterate his desire to stay.
“I feel like it's understood. We’ve had talks throughout their two years here. They know how I operate, as well,” he said, adding that the outside noise to them is just noise. “I don’t let that bleed into when I get into this facility, man, I don’t. It’s about getting better at football each day, trying to help this team win.”
Wilson, the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, expressed frustration with the offense during Sunday’s 28-25 loss to the previously winless Miami Dolphins, with an apparent on-field spat with veteran quarterback Geno Smith.
Wilson was targeted just three times in the game with two catches for 26 yards, the second game of minimal targets, and said after the loss the frustration wasn’t directed at Smith.
"We were heated, but not at each other," the WR said. "We were just disappointed with how we’d been playing up until that point and wanted to be a little more aggressive. That’s all that was there."
On Wednesday, Smith said that his decision-making process comes down to getting the ball in the hands of the playmakers based on what the defense is giving him.
"I read the defense and make the decisions based on what I see," the veteran QB said. "As I’m out there playing, I'm always trying to make the best decision for the team while focusing on getting the ball into the hands of our playmakers.
"I thought [Omar Cooper Jr.] had a great game. [Mason Taylor] had a great game. I think we completed 70 percent of our passes. There’s only one football on the field, and Garrett’s a guy…I’m looking to get him the football, as much as I can. But I have to be mindful of the defense as well."
Wilson began his NFL career with three straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards. He had just 395 yards and four touchdowns in an injury-hampered seven-game stint last season. Through seven games this year, he has 444 yards and three scores.
