Josh Myers Enters Year Two With The Jets As The Incumbent Starting Center
Through the summer, we will be counting down the Jets roster player by player. We continue the series by discussing Josh Myers.
Name: Josh Myers
Number: 71
Year With Jets: 2nd
Projected Role: Starting center
His 2025: After starting at center for three years in Green Bay, Myers settled for a cheap one year contract with the Jets in free agency. While nominally he competed with Joe Tippmann for the starting center job, Tippmann was widely expected to take the role. Things changed a few days before the start of the regular season when Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a season ending triceps injury. Myers was inserted into the starting lineup of a reshuffled offensive line.
To the extent there are metrics that rank interior offensive lineman, most graded Myers as a low tier starter. His play was at least stable enough to help the Jets have a middle of the pack offensive line, and he was rewarded with a 2 year, $11 million contract before the end of the season.
2026 will be a success if: Myers plays well enough that the Jets feel secure with him as the starter for 2027. His contract isn’t cheap. He is making mid-tier money for a starting center. But the Jets can move on from his contract painlessly after the season so the pressure is on Myers to play effective football.
