Key Seahawks Defensive Coach Set To Stay In Seattle For 2026

Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator Karl Scott has received some interest around the league for a promotion to defensive coordinator, but the Super Bowl champion looks to be staying in the Pacific Northwest for another season.

Scott, who has been with the team since working under Pete Carroll in 2022, was interviewed by both the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders for defensive coordinator. Arizona opted to retain Nick Rallis from Jonathan Gannon’s staff, while the Commanders hired former Minnesota Vikings assistant Daronte Jones.

There are only three teams with defensive coordinator vacancies at the moment: the New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, and Cleveland Browns. In all likelihood, the Patriots will promote from within after Terrell Williams (who’s thankfully now cancer free) was moved to a new role, so it’s really down to the Raiders and Browns. Las Vegas may yet try and grab a Seahawks assistant, as they’re set to interview safeties coach Jeff Howard.

Scott has been a key figure in the development of Seattle’s secondary, which boasts high draft picks like Devon Witherspoon and undrafted free agents like Ty Okada, with a host of others who have all been positive contributors to the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run and ascension to the top of the defensive rankings. It’s welcome news to know that Scott is set to stay put for the push to repeat in 2026.
