LeBron James finally has made a decision. The decision.

The 41-year-old stunned the NBA on Friday by deciding to take his talents back East to Philadelphia and join an exciting 76ers team. He explained the decision in a thread posted to X.

“The last few weeks have really been special,” James wrote, in part. “I’ve never been able to have no clue what to do and take real time to just think. I’ve had an incredible few months with all the people I love trying to figure it all out. This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?

“I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning. I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”

James announced after the 2025-26 season that his eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers was over, opening the pathway to the most intriguing free-agency decision in NBA history.

The four-time NBA MVP took his time, as he explained it wasn’t an easy decision.

As time went by, it was believed to be narrowed down to a handful of teams, including the Warriors. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and 76ers also were tied to James.

“Thank you LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always home!” James wrote to close out his social media statement.

Now, like the rest of the league, the Warriors must move on and look elsewhere to improve their roster for the 2026-27 season.
