Myles Garrett Injury Update: Rams Star Misses Practice With Knee Swelling, Says He's '85%'

Myles Garrett missed his second consecutive practice with swelling in his knee on Tuesday, Aug. 11, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters. Garrett was present for the Rams' joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys, but reportedly stood and watched on the sideline with a sleeve on his left leg.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year also missed four practices last week with what McVay called lower body soreness, though he maintained that there's no cause for concern and that Garrett told him he was at "85% percent." McVay also told reporters he wasn't sure which knee is bothering Garrett.

"I don't know what 100 percent is going to look like, but it must be pretty good if that's 85 percent," McVay said. "... We're getting to learn him. He's so tough. He wanted to be able to be out there, but listening to (senior vice president of sports medicine and performance) Reggie (Scott) and just kind of erring on the side of caution.

"When he's been out there, he has certainly made his impact felt, but we want to make sure that when he returns to play, he's able to return to full performance and feel like himself."

According to McVay, Garrett has not had any setbacks in his recovery. The Rams acquired Garrett − fresh off setting the NFL's single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025 − in June in a blockbuster trade that sent edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a third rounder in 2029 to the Cleveland Browns.
